U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith to Read as 2017 Dickinson Lecturer

U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir Ordinary Light (Knopf, 2015) and three books of poetry. Her collection Life on Mars won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize and was selected as a New York Times Notable Book. Lee Peterson published a  first collection, Rooms and Fields, as winner of the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize (Kent State University Press, 2004). She is currently working on a series entitled "Into This World." Peterson teaches in the English and Women’s Studies Programs at Penn State Altoona.

Cindy Clem, author of the chapbook Cat/Dog and Other Binaries, received her MFA in Poetry from Penn State University in 2005. Poet Andi Stout hails from from Belington, WV, and teaches writing in Penn State's English Department.  Her first book, Tiny Horses Don’t Get A Choice, is set in contemporary Appalachia and explores regional challenges such as environmental crisis, threats to home and family, politics and struggle, and migration and education.

Gabeba Baderoon is the author of several poetry collections including A Hundred Silences, which was a finalist for the University of Johannesburg Prize and the Olive Schreiner Award, The Dream in the Next Body, and Silence Before Speaking. She received the DaimlerChrysler Award for South African Poetry, and is currently an associate professor of Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies and African Studies at Penn State.

Sara J. Grossman is a visiting fellow at the Center for Humanities and Information at Pennsylvania State University.
